Each stone is carefully selected based on size, quality and color. The sculpting begins by smoothing the raw stone using various hand tools. As the sculpture's shape emerges, more detailed carving is applied to further release its human form.
Once satisfied with the total three dimensional shape of the stone, I then begin the final stages of sanding until it is skin-smooth to the touch and flawless to the eye.
The final touch is "wet" sanding which is the most exciting and satisfying step of the artistic process. It is at this point when the sculpture takes on a life of its own. I finish the piece with oil giving the sulpture its lasting lustre and warm glow. As each sculpture comes to life it creates its own personality and identity at which point it reveals its name.
